EMILYs List Celebrates National Doctors’ Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. – At a time when medical providers have never been more integral to the fight for abortion rights, EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement celebrating National Doctors’ Day: 
 
“On National Doctors’ Day, we honor the hard work and dedication of the medical providers across the country who have devoted their lives in the service of others. EMILYs List is proud to support physicians who have chosen to continue to serve their communities, by running to represent them. Women like Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D. and Dr. Yadira Caraveo, both pediatricians who have cared for the youngest and most vulnerable in their communities.
 
While celebrating physicians on this day, we must also acknowledge that the relationship between provider and patient has never been more under attack, thanks to the Republican anti-choice agenda. Abortion rights are integral to allowing a person to have autonomy over their own body, and Republicans continue to try to destroy them by seeking to villainize providers for providing necessary health care. We look forward to continuing to help elect Democratic pro-choice women physicians who understand the importance of reproductive freedom.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $700 million to elect Democratic pro-choice women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running nearly $50 million in independent expenditures in the last cycle alone, and turning out women voters and voters of color to the polls.
