EMILYs List Honors Transgender Day of Remembrance

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, commemorates Transgender Day of Remembrance, an annual day to honor the memory of transgender people we have lost their lives as a result of anti-transgender violence. Laphonza Butler, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:  

“On Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honor and mourn the countless transgender individuals who have been attacked, discriminated against, and lost their lives due to targeted violence. The trans communities’ experience is not talked about enough, and as we head into 2022, we must address the root causes for the disproportionate rates of violence and hate that trans people continue to face in our country. 

At a time when we need to band together, Republicans continue to introduce legislation that targets the rights and safety of trans youth and adults. Today is a reminder that there is important work ahead to ensure every person has the right to their own bodily autonomy and that fight continues in state legislatures across the country. EMILYs List knows how critical it is to uplift the voices of trans people who serve so more Americans can see themselves represented in the halls of power.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $700 million to elect Democratic pro-choice women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running nearly $50 million in independent expenditures in the last cycle alone, and turning out women voters and voters of color to the polls.
