EMILYs List Endorses Tameika Isaac Devine for Mayor of Columbia, SC

Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Tameika Isaac Devine in the race for mayor of Columbia, South Carolina. Emily Cain, executive director of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“The EMILYs List community is thrilled to stand with Tameika Isaac Devine and endorse her historic campaign for Columbia mayor. During her time on City Council, Tameika has shown her dedication to problem-solving and coalition building to bring better outcomes to Columbia’s working families. Tameika has also proven to be a fierce advocate for women, beginning her legal career  prosecuting domestic violence and sexual assault cases as part of Violence Against Women Act grants and programs. We know that as mayor, she will continue to prioritize racial, economic, and environmental equity to better the lives of all Columbia women, children, and families.” 

A Columbia native, Tameika Isaac Devine became the first African American woman to serve on the Columbia City Council and the first African American woman to be elected At-Large in 2002. Throughout her tenure on the City Council, Tameika has championed the empowerment of women and youth. She helped establish Columbia’s Criminal Domestic Violence Task Force and is dedicated to youth anti-gang initiatives. If elected, Tameika would be the first woman mayor and first African American woman mayor of Columbia.
