EMILYs List Endorses Two More Women Leaders for the Wisconsin State Assembly
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed two more women leaders for the Wisconsin State Assembly. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is thrilled to endorse Sara Rodriguez and Sarah Yacoub for the Wisconsin State Assembly. It has never been clearer why we need to elect problem solvers and health care workers like Sara Rodriguez, a registered nurse and former epidemic intelligence service officer at the Centers for Disease Control. A tireless champion for women, Sarah Yacoub provided pro bono legal representation to survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. EMILYs List is confident that, in Madison, both of these exceptional women will do right by Wisconsinites, even when tough decisions need to be made. We are proud to stand with them as they fight to secure voting rights, protect health care for people with preexisting conditions, and expand opportunities for working families.”
Sara Rodriguez is a Wisconsin native running to represent Wisconsin’s 13th Assembly District in Madison. Sara is a registered nurse who previously served as vice president of population health and integrated care management at a local health system and as an epidemic intelligence service officer at the Centers for Disease Control. In addition to her work in the public sector, Sara also previously served as vice president of a Fortune 100 company that provided mobile health technology. She is a returned Peace Corps volunteer and currently serves as a troop leader with Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast.
The daughter of two research scientists who taught her to think critically and follow facts, and a woman of faith, Sarah Yacoub is running in Wisconsin’s 30th Assembly District. Sarah earned her juris doctorate and is a former prosecutor. As a proud mother and a formidable lawyer fighting for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, Sarah has always empowered others and put them first. She currently lives in Hudson with her husband and their children.
These endorsements are in addition to the 10 previously endorsed EMILYs List candidates in Wisconsin: Patty Schachtner (SD-10), Kim Jensen (AD-01), Robyn Vining (AD-14), Deb Andraca (AD-23), Lee Snodgrass (AD-57), Emily Berge (AD-68), Beth Meyers (AD-74), Kristin Lyerly (AD-88), Kristina Shelton (AD-90), and Amanda WhiteEagle (AD-92).
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 55,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices.
