EMILYs List Endorses Deborah Ross for North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District
Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Deborah Ross for Congress in North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Deborah Ross is a proven and effective public servant for North Carolina and EMILY's List is proud to endorse her campaign. In her work as a legislative leader and her career as an attorney, Deborah has always fought for fairness, equality, and opportunity for North Carolinians and now she is taking that fight to Congress. We know that, once elected, Deborah will continue to lead and protect voting rights, improve infrastructure, and achieve equal pay for women and we can't wait to see her in action in Congress.”
As the daughter of a Vietnam-era Air Force veteran and pre-school teacher, Deborah Ross grew up believing that service to country and community is a part of living our values. As an attorney for over 25 years, Deborah’s work has focused on fighting for fairness, equality, and opportunity for all North Carolinians. As the former executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina and as a member of the North Carolina General Assembly for 10 years, she passionately and effectively defended access to reproductive health care, including birth control. Deborah served in the North Carolina state House from 2003 to 2013, and she served as both majority and minority whip and chaired the Judiciary, Ethics, and Election Laws Committees. She and her husband, Steve, are active in the Raleigh community where they’ve worked and lived for over 25 years.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 50,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state and national offices.
