EMILYs List Endorses Daniella Levine Cava for Miami-Dade County Mayor
Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Daniella Levine Cava for mayor of Miami-Dade County, Florida. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Daniella Levine Cava is an innovative leader with a clear vision for the future and a proven track record of fighting for Miami women and families. Under her leadership as a county commissioner, Miami-Dade County became the first county in the United States to sign on to the UN Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women and went on to adopt policies to ensure equal pay and equity for women in contracting and hiring. Once elected, Daniella will focus on closing the prosperity gap, curbing gun violence, and addressing the effects of climate change. It’s clear that she will continue to be a strong advocate for this community and EMILY's List is excited to support her campaign for mayor of Miami-Dade County.”
Daniella Levine Cava has an impressive record serving the people of Miami-Dade County in both the nonprofit and public sectors. Prior to her election to the Miami-Dade County Commission in 2014, Daniella was an attorney with Legal Services of Greater Miami and created the social services organization Catalyst Miami, which supports low and middle-income families by addressing the expanding wealth gap. As a county commissioner, Daniella has been a fierce advocate for women’s rights, environmental protections, and government accountability. She is the recipient of several prestigious awards from various organizations including the ACLU, the National Council of Jewish Women, the American Society for Public Administration, and the Red Cross. Daniella has lived in South Florida for nearly 40 years and has two children with her husband Robert.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 50,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state and national offices.
