EMILYs List Endorses Jill Schupp in Missouri’s 2nd Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Jill Schupp for Congress in Missouri’s 2nd Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Jill Schupp is a tireless leader who hardworking Missouri families need fighting for them in Congress, and EMILYs List is proud to endorse her. As a member of the Missouri state legislature and former school board president, Jill is a committed public servant whose experience informs her values and drives her in making sure all Missourians have a fair chance to succeed. She has tackled some of the state’s toughest issues including eliminating surprise medical billing, daycare safety reforms, and suicide prevention training for mental health professionals. When elected, Jill will continue her commitment to improving the lives of Missourians.
Jill is challenging incumbent Republican Ann Wagner, who voted to deny millions of Americans access to affordable health insurance. Rep. Wagner, who also voted to defund Planned Parenthood, has made it clear that her priorities are out of touch with the realities of Missouri residents. EMILYs List is proud to support Jill Schupp as the champion Missouri’s women and children deserve.
Jill Schupp was raised in University City, Missouri and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. She went on to earn a teaching certificate from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and taught elementary school before joining an advertising agency where she helped businesses grow. When Jill learned that her sons and their classmates were unable to concentrate in their classrooms that lacked air conditioning, she became involved in the school board and won a seat on it. She quickly established a reputation as a dedicated public servant, and went on to win election to her city council in her community of Creve Coeur and then to the state legislature. In 2014, she flipped a state senate seat — winning a hard-fought election against John R. “Jay” Ashcroft, the son of former Republican senator, governor, and U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft, in a tough year for Democrats. She and her husband, Mark, are the proud parents of two grown children.”
