EMILYs List Congratulates Kate Gallego on Her Victory in the Phoenix Mayoral Election
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulated Kate Gallego on being elected mayor of Phoenix, Arizona. Kate is the first woman elected as mayor in Phoenix in more than three decades and is currently the only woman leading one of the country’s ten largest cities. Kate Gallego was elected to the Phoenix City Council in 2013. As city councilwoman she led efforts to transform the city’s public transportation system by successfully campaigning to pass Proposition 104, which formed the base of a $31.5 billion improvement investment plan. Gallego also led the effort to implement equal pay for equal work by successfully passing Phoenix's equal pay ordinance and spearheaded efforts to end sexual harassment by instituting a standing policy for elected public officials citywide.
