EMILY's List on Tonight's State of the Union

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight, Donald Trump will give his State of the Union address. Former Georgia House Minority Leader and 2018 gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams will give the Democratic Party's response. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List, released the following statement:

“We know what we'll hear tonight from President Trump — more division, more efforts to chip away at our rights, particularly women trying to make their own health care decisions. No matter what Trump says tonight, we have faith in the future of our union because of the leadership of women like Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Stacey Abrams, and the women elected in 2018 to help make their own communities better. As Donald Trump continues to focus on himself, our Democratic leaders are focused on improving the state of our union. At EMILY's List, we're going to keep fighting to elect more pro-choice Democratic women to defeat Trump and his policies in the fall.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 40,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state and national offices.
