Diverse Coalition Launches Program Supporting New Mexico's Xochitl Torres Small
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, a broad coalition of progressive organizations including labor, campaign reformers, Latino advocates, environmental, and women’s groups announced an independent expenditure campaign to help elect Xochitl Torres Small in New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District. The group of organizations includes Women Vote, an arm of EMILYs List, the American Federation of Teachers, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ BOLD PAC, End Citizens United, Environmental Defense Action Fund, the House Majority PAC, Latino Victory Fund, the League of Conservation Voters Victory Fund, and Priorities USA Action.
The groups will invest more than $1,000,000 on TV and digital ads. The TV ad that will begin airing today can be viewed here.
“Unlike Yvette Herrell, who used her position to enrich her own business and take lavish trips at the expense of taxpayers, Xochitl Torres Small knows what New Mexico working families need,” said Christina Reynolds, vice president of communications at EMILY's List. “New Mexicans deserve to know the ways that Herrell has violated the public trust and what a stark contrast that is to Xochitl, a water attorney and community advocate who will put working families first.”
SCRIPT: “We Paid for It”
VO: She took lavish trips across the country
And WE…we paid for it.
Her business got $440,000 worth of sweetheart state contracts
And WE…we paid for it.
Yvette Herrell betrayed the public trust, lining her pockets, as an elected official
And WE…we all paid for it.
It’s time we all stop paying for Yvette Herrell’s shady ways.
Women Vote is EMILYs List’s independent expenditure arm which works to educate and mobilize women voters on behalf of pro-choice Democratic women candidates, and help turnout voters for Democrats up and down the ballot. Launched in 1995, the EMILY's List Women Vote project combines polling and research, sophisticated message testing, the latest innovations in data and technology as well as good old-fashioned voter contact to mobilize millions of women voters across the country.
