EMILYs List Recognizes Black Women's Equal Pay Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List released the following statement on Black Women’s Equal Pay Day. This date marks how far into the year African American women must work to earn what white, non-Hispanic men earned in the previous year for the same work. Black women earn only $0.63 for every dollar a white, non-Hispanic man makes. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List, released the following statement:

“America may have been founded on the promise of equality, but the reality is that Black women face incredible injustice in this country — including in the workplace. You wouldn't know it if you talked to Republicans — who would rather roll back workplace protections, pass tax breaks for the wealthy, and maintain a devastating, self-serving status quo than work to make life better for their fellow Americans. No one should have to work into August to make what a white, non-Hispanic man earned by the end of the previous December. EMILY's List is proud to stand with Black women as they fight this inequity, including candidates like Stacey Abrams, Lauren Underwood, and Lucy McBath. With them in power, we can help set this right.”
