EMILYs List Endorses Diane Mitsch Bush in Colorado's 3rd District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Diane Mitsch Bush for Congress in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Diane Mitsch Bush is deeply committed to expanding economic opportunity for rural Coloradans. As a former public servant and educator, Diane is running for Congress to improve access to affordable health care, increase investments in public education and protect Colorado’s beautiful public lands. Her track record in the Colorado House and as a county commissioner proves that she will be the strong voice working families need fighting for them in Washington.
“Diane is running to flip a seat in a critical swing state that has voted for Democrats in recent presidential elections and has the potential to become even more blue. She is running to face incumbent Republican Congressman Scott Tipton, who has voted for President Trump’s disastrous agenda nearly 100 percent of the time, including to take away affordable health care. Coloradans deserve a new voice representing their best interests in Washington, and Diane has proven that she will be that representative. Let’s show her our full support so that hardworking families in the 3rd District will finally have a representative in Congress who speaks for them.”
Diane Mitsch Bush most recently served five years in the Colorado House of Representatives, where she was a vocal proponent of strengthening public education, improving access to affordable health care, protecting public lands and more. She previously served as a Routt County commissioner, working on issues important to rural Colorado including water rights, internet broadband access, transportation funding and affordable housing. Prior to serving as an elected official, she was a professor at Colorado Mountain College and Colorado State University. Diane has called Steamboat Springs her home for over 40 years and currently lives there with her husband, with whom she loves to ski, mountain bike and rock climb.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
