EMILY's List Endorses Nine Women Leaders for Nevada’s State Legislature
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed nine women leaders for the Nevada state legislature. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Pro-choice Democratic women in the Nevada state legislature have been at the forefront of sweeping progress for women and families, including expanded access to reproductive health care coverage and rights for working parents. That progress has been under attack from Republicans who have tried, and failed, to push their agenda. These nine women are ready to take their seats in both chambers and vote to support the women and families of Nevada. EMILYs List is proud to endorse them.”
EMILYs List endorsed the following slate of candidates:
Shea Backus (AD-37)
Senator Yvanna Cancela (SD-10)
Assemblywoman Lesley Cohen (AD-29)
Deonne Contine (AD-24)
Marilyn Dondero Loop (SD-08)
Michelle Gorelow (AD-35)
Connie Munk (AD-04)
Julie Pazina (SD-20)
Melanie Scheible (SD-09)
This is not the first time EMILY's List has been active in electing pro-choice Democratic women to the Nevada state legislature. In 2016, Democrats picked up 10 seats in the Nevada House and one seat in the Nevada Senate to flip both chambers. Every EMILYs List endorsed candidate won their elections, including three state senators and six assemblywomen.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
