EMILYs List Endorses Susan Bysiewicz for Governor of Connecticut
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed SusanBysiewicz for governor of Connecticut. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Susan Bysiewicz is a strong, decisive leader who has what it takes to serve in Connecticut’s highest office. As secretary of state, Susan fought to expand voting rights and for fair elections, helping to ensure every voter has a voice in choosing their representatives. In the state legislature, Susan was a voice for women and families, leading on and supporting legislation to improve their lives. As governor, Susan will continue fighting on behalf of all Nutmeggers and be an advocate for expanding economic opportunity.
“Susan is running in a crowded primary for an open seat, in a state that has not had a Democratic woman in its highest office in the last four decades. She is a proven leader who will be a strong progressive voice for Connecticut families in Hartford. EMILYs List is proud to stand with Susan as she spreads her message of opportunity throughout the state. We hope she will be one of many new women governors elected this November.”
Currently an attorney in private practice, Susan Bysiewicz has previously served in Connecticut state government as a state representative and secretary of state. She has been a member of the Middletown Democratic Town Committee for over two decades and serves as a board member for the Girl Scouts of Connecticut. Susan lives in Middletown with her husband, and is the mother of three children.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
