FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Liz Whitmer Gereghty for election to New York’s 17th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“Liz Whitmer Gereghty is deeply committed to the residents of the Hudson Valley, and has spent the last 20 years working to ensure that its businesses and schools thrive. As we look out over a landscape in which Republican extremists from New York are taking their radical agendas to Congress and working to ban abortion not just for New Yorkers but for all Americans, it has never been more critical for us to support and elect Democratic pro-choice champions like Gereghty who will push back and defend our freedoms. EMILYs List is thrilled to endorse Gereghty today because we know she has what it takes to solve problems and deliver solutions for New York’s 17th Congressional District.”

Liz Whitmer Gereghty has owned her own small business, served on the Katonah-Lewisboro School Board, and is a two-decade resident of the Hudson Valley running to fight for the people of New York’s 17th Congressional District. Gereghty raised her family and started her business in the Katonah area, and played a critical role in leading the local school district through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. She also served as the chair of the school district’s Facilities Committee, working to improve school buildings while overseeing a budget of over $100 million. Gereghty graduated from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and also serves as a small business consultant, helping other local businesses thrive. Her approach to serving her community is all about listening — Gereghty believes in sitting down and finding solutions and common ground in order to solve problems and get things done, and that’s just what she’ll do in Congress.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
