Sewell plans to create jobs in District 7

On June 1, 2010, Terri Sewell hopes to become the first woman elected to serve Alabama’s 7th Congressional District. Being the first is nothing new to Sewell. She was the first black valedictorian at her high school in Selma in 1982. She was also the first black female partner at Maynard, Cooper and Gale law firm in Birmingham.

Sen. Murray Leading Senate Trip to China

Patty Murray and two other U.S. senators are traveling to China to meet with leaders of that country.

Murray, a Washington state Democrat, chairs the U.S.-China Inter-Parliamentary Group, which promotes dialogue between the U.S. Senate and the Chinese government. Also going on the trip are Sens. Roland Burris, D-Ill., and Kit Bond, R-Mo., who is vice chairman of the inter-parliamentary group. They plan to discuss trade, the economy, international security, energy and other issues with the Chinese leaders.

Senators support Hanabusa for Congress

Congressional candidate Colleen Hanabusa opened her campaign headquarters with a traditional Hawaiian blessing and a nontraditional show of support from the state's top two elected Democrats.

U.S. Sens. Dan Inouye and Dan Akaka were on hand yesterday to endorse Hanabusa as she seeks to succeed U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie, who is resigning from the U.S. House of Representatives on Feb. 28 to concentrate on his run for governor.
