EMILY’s List Names Fifty Congressional Republican Incumbents as Initial Top 2018 Targets

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, launched its largest-ever Republican opposition program, “On Notice,” for the 2018 election cycle. This 2018 launch of “On Notice” features an initial fifty House and Senate Republicans who have amassed appallingly anti-woman, anti-family records and are EMILY’s List’s top targets for congressional takeover seats in the upcoming elections.

The 2018 launch of “On Notice” is the largest ever in the organization’s 32-year history. A full list of Republican incumbents is available here.

Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List, released the following statement:

“Women are fed up with so-called representatives who prefer Washington politics to protecting their rights – and we’re launching our largest-ever opposition program to send them packing in 2018.”

Women will flip the House of Representatives in 2018 – both our strong Democratic women candidates and women voters who are furious at the lack of leadership from their Republican representatives. EMILY’s List is targeting more House Republican seats than ever before. We are aggressively recruiting candidates in districts from Washington to South Carolina, and Michigan to Texas. Republicans across the country - especially the 48 we're putting 'On Notice' today - should be very nervous.”

We are also targeting two incredibly vulnerable Republican senators, Jeff Flake and Dean Heller, who are more puppets for the Washington establishment than advocates for the people they were elected to represent. By voting for the Republican health care bill this week, Heller and Flake gambled with the lives of millions of Americans to score cheap political points. Voters deserve far better – and they have the chance to make that change in 2018.”

“The 50 Republicans we’ve put ‘On Notice’ thought they could get away with voting time and again to roll back the clock on women’s rights. They’re wrong. Every Republican on this list should take a long look at their shameful, anti-woman records – their repeated votes to defund Planned Parenthood and roll back equal pay legislation; their 'yes' votes on Trumpcare – and get nervous about 2018. Women aren’t backing down or keeping quiet. EMILY’s List is recruiting an historic number of strong, pro-choice Democratic women to run and flip the House and key Senate seats – these 50 Republicans shouldn’t get too attached to Capitol Hill.”

EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILY’s List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
