This year, we will hear from top strategists and Democratic pro-choice women leaders about the critical work ahead to reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris, hold the Senate and take back the House, and continue building power in the states where our rights are on the line.

Honoring Senator Tammy Duckworth

The We Are EMILY Award honors extraordinary women who are making a significant impact on our nation through consistent leadership and inspiration to the EMILY’s List community – which is now more than five million strong.

EMILYs List is thrilled to announce that we will honor and hear from Senator Tammy Duckworth at this year’s We Are EMILY!

U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth is an Iraq War Veteran, Purple Heart recipient, and former assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs who was among the first handful of Army women to fly combat missions during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

On Nov. 12, 2004, Tammy’s UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade that exploded in her lap. She lost both legs and partial use of her right arm in the explosion. Ever since, she’s spent every day working for those who sacrificed to save her — as well as for all military families.

First elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016, Tammy has worked to be an effective and caring leader for all Illinoisans. She has championed and passed legislation to help working families get ahead, brought environmental justice to overlooked communities in Illinois, lowered costs for everyday families, and improved the lives of servicemembers, Veterans, and military families. Tammy has been recognized by the Center for Effective Lawmaking as among the top five most effective Democratic senators overall and was also recognized as the most effective freshman Democratic senator in the 115th Congress. She serves on several influential committees including the Armed Services Committee; the Foreign Relations Committee; the Commerce, Science, & Transportation Committee; and the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Committee. Prior to being elected to the U.S. Senate, she served two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Tammy lives with her husband Bryan, their two daughters Abigail and Maile, and her mother Lamai.

The Anthem is located at 901 Wharf Street SW Washington, D.C. 20024.

Security
Please note that all guests will need to show a government-issued photo ID and pass through an airport-style security screening prior to entering the receptions and gala. Please plan accordingly.

Hotel Directions to the Anthem

Please take the hotel elevator down to the G1 Level and exit through the main doors. After exiting, turn right towards the wharf and there will be EMILYs staff stationed along the route to the Anthem for your convenience.

Parking

Please park at the Wharf Parking Garage, located at 20 Blair Alley SW, Washington, D.C. 20024.

The most convenient location to park in the garage is in the yellow section labeled C1, C2, and C3. After parking, please take the elevators or stairs in that section to G (District SQ, Street Level).
