Sydney Kamlager
An outstanding public servant
Rep. Sydney Kamlager ran for Congress to build on the progress she has made for Los Angeles families in her years of outstanding public service. Rep. Kamlager came to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California as a political science major. She was a student in 1992 when riots following the Rodney King verdict erupted — a catalytic event that motivated her to work with Rebuild LA and the Los Angeles Festival, non-profit organizations that advanced job creation and public arts programs to restore broken communities. She served as district director for Assemblywoman and then state Sen. Holly Mitchell. Rep. Kamlager was appointed to the Los Angeles County Commission on Children and Families in 2013, and in 2015 she was elected to the Los Angeles Community College Board. She successfully ran for state Assembly in 2018 and state Senate in 2021. Rep. Kamlager is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California and a master’s degree in Arts Management and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University. She lives in View Park, California with her husband, her two step-children, and their rescue pets.
A champion for Los Angeles families
Rep. Kamlager is champion for Los Angeles families, and she ran for Congress to expand opportunity for all. Throughout her career as an advocate and elected leader, she has taken on the toughest issues facing the community she is dedicated to serving. Rep. Kamlager has a proven record of fighting for health care equity, criminal justice reform, environmental protections, affordable housing, reproductive justice, and educational opportunity for underserved youth. In Congress, she will deliver for her community and defend our democracy.
Victory in an open seat
Rep. Kamlager ran for the open seat vacated by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. Rep. Kamlager has what it takes to continue making an enormous positive impact on the lives of all Californians. EMILY’s List has supported Rep. Kamlager throughout her electoral career, and we are proud to have helped elect this champion for California women to Congress.
