Tanya Miller
A Battle-Tested Leader on the Front Lines of Justice
Tanya Miller has spent her career on the front lines of justice. As a prosecutor, she fought for victims and held child predators and violent criminals accountable. As a civil rights attorney, she defended Georgians’ rights and demanded accountability from those in power. Now, she’s running for attorney general to ensure that the law — not politics — serves every Georgian. Earlier this year, EMILYs List named Tanya the winner of its 2026 Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award for her outstanding record of delivering for Georgians; from fighting back against Republicans’ assault on Georgians’ rights in the state legislature to making neighborhoods safer as district attorney. She is a battle-tested leader who has what it takes to defeat extreme MAGA Republican Brian Strickland in November.
A Must-Win Fight for Election Security and Georgians’ Rights
Attorneys general have been front and center in the fight against Trump and are the key to shoring our state centers of power. Their importance has only increased: Now that the U.S. Supreme Court has sharply curtailed the ability of federal courts to issue nationwide injunctions, the only Americans who have legal recourse against the Trump administration’s illegal actions are those in states with strong Democratic attorneys general who sign on to lawsuits protecting their constituents. They interpret and enforce laws that protect voters and ensure efficient and fair administration of elections. Crucially, they defend election security in their implementation of state laws in litigation.
Georgia voters will decide the direction of their state this November, and the outcomes in this battleground have major national implications for our democracy in 2028 and beyond. Republicans will do everything in their power to stop us from making progress, and Tanya’s MAGA opponent Brian Strickland’s record paints a clear picture of the dangerous agenda he would enact as attorney general. He voted for Georgia’s 2021 voter suppression law that restricted voting access in Georgia, predominantly discriminating against Black and minority voters. He also voted for unconstitutional restrictions on Georgians’ right to protest and supports Trump’s deployment of federal forces in American cities. Strickland repeatedly voted to make it harder for Georgia to fully expand Medicaid and repeatedly voted for anti-abortion legislation, including Georgia’s extreme six-week abortion ban. He supported and voted for policies that would defund Georgia’s public schools and enable book bans, and, despite warnings it was illegal, he voted to impose drug tests for certain SNAP recipients. Strickland has also voted to allow people to deny employment or services, including marriage ceremonies, to LGBTQ+ Georgians. He is running to undermine and blatantly attack the rights that Tanya is dedicated to protecting for Georgians.
Tanya is a respected trial attorney, a proven leader as chair of the Georgia House Democratic Caucus, a fierce advocate for Georgians, and a proud mom. She has spent her career standing on the front lines for working people, and she is the champion Georgians need fighting for them in the office of the attorney general. “As a homicide prosecutor, I never lost a case,” Tanya said. “And I don’t plan on losing this fight for Georgia’s working families. They have waited long enough for leaders who care deeply for them — for their safety, their dignity, and their right to pursue prosperity, freedom, and happiness. That wait ends now.”
Our Assignment
With so much at stake, we must ensure that Tanya has the resources she needs to fight back against Republicans’ attempts to strengthen their grip on power in this battleground state. With several major races on the ballot in Georgia, the cost of getting her powerful message out to break through the noise and reach voters is high, and powerful special interests are lining up to keep this office under their control. But Tanya is undeterred, and her campaign is engaging voters across Georgia to make sure they know they can have a fierce advocate of their own in their state’s highest legal office. Tanya is an asset to the Democratic ticket in this swing state where every vote counts, and we have the opportunity to help her win for Georgia and for democracy.
“As a Black woman running in the South, overcoming structural barriers, to have the confidence and support of this organization, in ways big and small, has made all the difference,” Tanya said in her speech accepting the 2026 Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award at the We Are EMILY National Gala. With the full support of the EMILYs List community, Tanya can and will win in November.
