Susie Lee

A fierce champion for Nevada children and families
Rep. Susie Lee has dedicated her career to improving the lives of Nevadans, working to create safer, healthier, and more fulfilling communities. In Congress, she continues to bring people together to find and implement innovative solutions to the toughest challenges facing Nevada’s families. Lee grew up the sixth of eight children in a working-class community. She learned the values of hard work and stretching a dollar, starting with a paper route at the age of eight. After graduating from public schools, Lee worked her way through Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with a combination of scholarships, loans, and part-time jobs. After moving to Las Vegas in 1993, Lee became the founding director of After-School All-Stars, which serves over 7,000 students every day after school. She went on to serve as president of Communities In Schools of Nevada (CIS), a leading dropout prevention organization that grew in size and impact under her leadership. As a member of Congress, Lee is fighting for Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District students every day.
An experienced community leader and problem solver
Since being elected to Congress in 2018, Rep. Lee has worked relentlessly to achieve results for Nevada families. From combating the drought, to bringing supply chains back to America to lower costs, to ensuring our veterans get the benefits they deserve, Lee has delivered for Nevadans. At a time when Republicans are threatening to cut Medicaid and Medicare, we need champions like her in office, as health care accessibility has long been a personal issue for Lee. When she was a freshman in college, her father was laid off from his steel manufacturing job and never had another shot at economic security. Her parents couldn’t afford health insurance because of common preexisting conditions, and when her mother had a heart attack one month before reaching Medicare eligibility, the hospital bill was so large they risked losing their house. Lee saw the impact of that first hand and understands that access to quality health care is a right, not a privilege. She has also continued standing up for reproductive rights, fighting back against abortion bans and supporting legislation to codify the right to choose that is now in jeopardy across the country. In her fight for accessible health care, she also took on pharmaceutical companies and won, passing the most significant legislation to bring down prescription drug costs in decades. We know she will continue to be a powerful advocate for all southern Nevadans.
A must-win reelection fightRep. Lee successfully fought to keep this swing seat blue when EMILYs List U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen vacated it in 2018, and she successfully defended it in 2020, 2022, and 2024. Lee represents one of only 13 House districts nationwide that voted for Trump while still electing a Democrat, making it a top target for Republicans. As Republicans continue to target this district with heavy spending and have named it a potential pick up in future cycles, we cannot take anything for granted in this swing district. With so much of our progress at stake, let’s show Rep. Lee the full support of the EMILYs List community and help keep this champion for Nevada families in the House.
