A Patriotic Pro-Choice Champion

Missy Cotter Smasal is a U.S. Navy veteran, small business, adjunct professor, and the executive director of a nonprofit organization that honors our nation’s servicewomen. She served as a surface warfare officer in the U.S. Navy and deployed aboard the U.S.S. Trenton during Operation Enduring Freedom, after which she owned a small business in the restaurant industry in Virginia Beach for over a decade. Cotter Smasal also serves as the Virginia citizen representative on the Chesapeake Bay Commission, working to restore and protect the Chesapeake Bay watershed. She and her husband Bryan, who is also a veteran, have two children together.

A Fighter Who Will Stop a National Ban

Cotter Smasal is determined to take her commitment to reproductive freedom to the halls of Congress and ensure that Republican extremists will never be able to pass a national abortion ban. “You have an innate right to control your own body,” she has said. “You should not lose that right depending on where you live, who controls your state legislature, or where your military orders station you and your family.” In Congress, Cotter Smasal will also be a champion for America’s veterans, make our communities safer, and advocate for the revitalization of coastal Virginia’s communities.

Unseating a Radical Extremist

Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District is currently represented by anti-choice extremist Rep. Jen Kiggans, a legislator so out of touch with Virginians that she accepted the endorsement of an anti-abortion group whose goal is to end abortion entirely with no exceptions. Kiggans is a sure vote against reproductive freedom, and in order for Democrats to regain control of the U.S. House, this is a must-hold seat. Cotter Smasal is the right candidate to take on Jen Kiggans and ensure that the people of the 2nd Congressional District have a leader they can actually trust to fight for their rights and defend their freedoms.
