A Floridian Fighting for Floridians

Lucia Báez-Geller is an educator, community leader, and proud Floridian who currently serves as a school board member and champion for students in the Miami-Dade County School Board’s 3rd District. The daughter of working parents from Columbia and Cuba, Báez-Geller was a first-generation college student in the United States and went on to teach English and language arts to thousands of Miami’s public school students for 15 years. In 2013, she was the recipient of the Political Advocate of the Year Award from the National Education Association, and she has been a fighter on the school board for all of the county’s students and families. Báez-Geller and her husband David have a two-year-old daughter.

A Champion for Students and Families

Báez-Geller will be a voice for Floridians who are tired of Republican politicians playing games with their lives and their futures. As an educator, advocate, and school board member, she’s seen firsthand the lifelong impact a quality education can make in the lives of young people, families, and communities. In Congress, she’ll fight to make sure every student has the education and opportunity they need to thrive — including the students she fights for on the school board every day who are being impacted by the state GOP’s rampant and dangerous anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. Báez-Geller has also been a strong voice for bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom, declaring that “we deserve a congresswoman who believes that women have the right to choose their own futures.”

Unseating an Out-of-Step Extremist

Florida’s 27th Congressional District is currently represented by Republican anti-choice extremist Rep. María Elvira Salazar, who has voted against the Women’s Health Protection Act twice, opposed legislation to protect contraception nationwide, and received support from a radical group whose mission is to end abortion entirely. Salazar is wildly out of step with the voters of the 27th Congressional District, and Báez-Geller is ready to hit the ground running, help Democrats take back the U.S. House, and start working for Floridians’ freedoms — not against. Let’s show her the full support of the EMILYs List community this year and ensure that Báez-Geller is sent to Congress to fight for our reproductive rights.
