A champion for Washington State working families
Rep. Kim Schrier is a pediatrician who serves in Congress to expand economic opportunity for Washington State working families. The daughter of an elementary school teacher and an aerospace engineer, Rep. Schrier has understood what it means to worry about health insurance coverage since she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 16. A proud graduate of public schools, including her degrees in astrophysics and medicine, Rep. Schrier has dedicated her career to improving the lives of her patients and their families. After the 2016 election, she marched, protested, and called her elected officials to fight back against the agenda threatening to undo all the progress we’ve worked so hard to make. When Republicans began their effort to take away millions of working families’ access to affordable health care, she decided to step up and run for office for the very first time and won. Rep. Schrier, her husband, and their son live in Sammamish, the community where she has served children and families as a pediatrician.
A pediatrician and community leader fighting for our values
Rep. Schrier is committed to expanding economic opportunity for all Washington State working families. As a medical doctor with nearly two decades of experience practicing pediatrics in her community, Rep. Schrier brings vital leadership to Congress. She is a pro-choice champion who fiercely defends every woman’s right to make her own health care decisions. “Having a woman doctor at the table is an important perspective, especially during discussions of women’s health and reproductive rights,” she has said. She serves as the vice ranking member on the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee, which legislates on many issues including health care, climate change, energy policy, environmental protections, medical research, and telecommunications. Now more than ever, we need Rep. Schrier’s experience and perspective in Congress.
A must-win reelection fight
Rep. Schrier flipped this seat blue for the first time in its history in 2018, and she successfully defended it in 2020 and again in 2022. Now she must defend this seat in another high-stakes fight as the GOP does everything in their power to tighten their grip on their new and narrow House majority. It’s time to show Rep. Schrier the full support of the EMILYs List community once again and help keep this champion for Washington State women and families in Congress.
