Rep. Kathy Castor has spent her career fighting for the people and communities of Tampa Bay. A native Floridian and lifelong public servant, Kathy has dedicated herself to building a stronger economy, expanding opportunity for families, and protecting the environment and quality of life that make Florida special. Growing up, she learned the importance of community, hard work, and service from her family and neighbors. Before serving in the U.S. Congress, Kathy worked as an environmental attorney and served as a Hillsborough County commissioner, where she earned a reputation for standing up for working families and protecting Florida’s natural resources. Throughout her career, Kathy has remained focused on practical solutions that help people in their everyday lives — from lowering healthcare costs and strengthening schools to creating jobs and investing in infrastructure that keeps Tampa Bay growing. 

Results-Driven Leadership

In 2006, Kathy became the first woman to represent both Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties in the U.S. Congress. In Congress, she has become a leading voice on affordable healthcare, clean energy, and economic opportunity. As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and ranking member of the Energy Subcommittee, she has worked to lower energy costs, strengthen consumer protections, and invest in clean energy jobs that grow Florida’s economy while protecting the environment. Kathy helped draft the Affordable Care Act and has fought to protect healthcare coverage for families and people with preexisting conditions. She has worked to lower prescription drug costs, including supporting the cap on insulin prices, expanding access to care for veterans and children, and strengthening Florida’s healthcare workforce. She has also been a champion for Tampa Bay’s economy — securing federal investments that support workforce training, transportation, schools, small businesses, research institutions, ports, and military communities like MacDill Air Force Base. Kathy believes that economic growth should benefit everyone and has focused on creating opportunities for working families and local businesses to succeed.

Securing FL-14’s Future

Kathy is running for reelection in Florida’s 14th Congressional District. She has been a leader in protecting Florida’s coastlines and preparing communities for the challenges of climate change. From fighting offshore drilling to leading efforts on clean energy and resiliency, she has worked to protect Tampa Bay’s environment, economy, and way of life for future generations. While Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida Republicans are busy stripping away Floridians of representation in Congress, Kathy has always been about making government work for people. She has decades of experience and a proven record of delivering for Florida families and continues to bring steady, solutions-focused leadership to Congress, where she fights for a stronger future for Tampa Bay.
