Putting Working Families First

Kaela Berg is a flight attendant, union leader, mother and fierce advocate for the hardworking families of Minnesota. As a proud mom who  raised two sons in the Burnsville school system, Kaela knows firsthand the struggles families face when schools are underfunded and kids don’t get the support they need. She fought for her child to get the resources he needed at school – an experience that inspired her run for the state House in order to ensure that our schools are well funded, children feel safe, and have an opportunity to get ahead.

Like so many Minnesotans, Kaela worked multiple jobs, lived  paycheck-to-paycheck, and felt the stress of choosing between putting food on the table or paying the next bill. She also knows the difference a fair wage, good benefits, and a strong union contract that protects workers can make. For nearly two decades, she has been a union flight attendant and fierce labor leader, standing shoulder to shoulder with workers to win dignity, respect and economic security.

Fighting for a Better Minnesota

To continue fighting for working families, Kaela decided to run for the state House and was first  elected in 2020. As a state legislator, she co-sponsored legislation that codified reproductive rights in the state constitution, expanded access to affordable health care, and brought good paying jobs to the district. She has made a career of listening to her community and turning their concerns into effective legislation that lowers their costs and puts working families first. Watching as Washington is controlled by politicians who put their donors ahead of hard working families, Kaela has decided to take the fight to Washington to ensure that workers, schools, and the people of Minnesota’s 2nd always have a champion in Washington.

Protect This Seat, Take Back the House

This district was a longtime Republican stronghold until Rep. Angie Craig flipped it in 2018. In 2022 and 2020 this district saw close, competitive races and we expect Republicans to try their best to take it back. EMILYs List is proud to have stood by Kaela since her first run for office in  2020, when she won a swing district in Minnesota’s House of Representatives. Now she is ready to take on this critical seat and help flip the U.S. House.
