An experienced leader fighting for Virginia’s working families
Rep. Jennifer Wexton is an experienced leader and advocate for justice who ran for reelection to Congress to continue fighting for Virginia families. She has been serving the people of Northern Virginia and Shenandoah Valley for two decades as a prosecutor, advocate for abused children, state senator, and now as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Virginia’s 10th District. She took her passion for protecting others to the state Senate, winning a special election in January 2014. She passed over 40 bills during her time in Richmond, proving herself to be an effective bipartisan legislator. Rep. Wexton ran a successful grassroots House campaign in 2018. Until she flipped this seat and successfully defended it in 2020, Republicans had controlled this seat for 60 of the past 66 years and again in 2022. Rep. Wexton is a Washington-area native who lives in Leesburg, Virginia with her husband, two sons, and two rescued labrador retrievers.
A champion for expanding economic opportunity and justice for all
Rep. Wexton is dedicated to expanding economic opportunity for Northern Virginia families. As a state senator, she was involved in the successful efforts to expand Medicaid to about 400,000 Virginians who previously didn’t qualify. She came to Congress with experience in legislating and a deep understanding of the issues that matter most to the families in her region. She has worked to help families and small businesses weather the COVID-19 pandemic, championed legislation to create good-paying jobs by rebuilding infrastructure, delivered for her district through her role on the powerful Appropriations Committee, authored bills to support survivors of abuse and domestic violence, and fights for human rights around the world. Rep. Wexton is committed to justice and equality for all, and her values and her strong work ethic guide this fierce advocate for Virginia families.
Victory in a must-win reelection fight
Rep. Wexton gave Virginia a new voice in Washington when she defeated an entrenched Republican incumbent in 2018, and EMILY’s List has been with her every step of the way. With so much of our progress at stake, we showed Rep. Wexton the full support of the EMILY’s List community and helped keep this champion for Virginians in the House.
