A Voice for Kentucky’s Working Families

Cherlynn Stevenson is a proud lifelong Kentuckian who has devoted her life to strengthening communities across the Commonwealth. Born and raised in Hindman, a small town in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, Cherlynn comes from a family rooted in hard work and service. Her mother was a public school teacher for nearly 30 years, and her father was an Army veteran and coal miner. Growing up, Cherlynn saw firsthand how hard rural families work to make ends meet and how often they’re overlooked. Those lessons have guided her throughout a lifetime of service. After earning her degree in behavioral sciences from Morehead State University, Cherlynn worked in health care, manufacturing, and eventually ran her own small business. Cherlynn has served her community, leading local organizations and helping raise millions for cancer research. Cherlynn was elected to the Kentucky House in 2018 after knocking more doors than any other candidate in the state — and went on to serve three terms representing one of Kentucky’s most competitive districts as Republicans targeted her through redistricting.

A Mountain Democrat

In the state legislature, Cherlynn worked across the aisle to bring new jobs and industry to Kentucky, protected health care coverage for more than a million Kentuckians, and increased funding for public schools. As House Minority Caucus chair, she became known for her ability to bring people together and deliver results for working families, teachers, veterans, and children. After experiencing a life-threatening family health crisis and accruing thousands of dollars of medical debt while she and her husband were without insurance due to new-job waiting periods, Cherlynn went to work to protect families from predatory insurance practices. Cherlynn is running for Congress as a Mountain Democrat, drawing on her roots in Appalachia to fight for working people and bring down costs.

Flip KY-06 from Red to Blue

Cherlynn Stevenson is running for Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District, an open seat currently held by Republican Rep. Andy Barr. Right now, Kentucky’s families are under attack, and Cherlynn has a proven track record of delivering results for workers, teachers, veterans, and both suburban and rural communities. With her deep Kentucky roots and her unwavering commitment to fighting for rural communities, Cherlynn is exactly the leader this district needs. EMILYs List is proud to stand with her in this critical election.
