A Fighter for All in New Jersey

Carol Murphy is the current state assemblywoman for New Jersey’s 7th Assembly District, where she serves as the chamber’s majority whip. Murphy hails from a proud military family and credits her father’s service with instilling in her values of patriotism and community service. Before running for office, she worked in the New Jersey Schools Development Authority to improve and modernize the state’s public school system. She also served as a chief of staff and policy director in the New Jersey state legislature before running for office in 2017 and winning with the full support of EMILYs List. In the state Assembly she has been a prolific and effective leader for the Garden State, leading efforts to protect abortion access, raise the minimum wage, reduce gun violence, defend LGBTQ+ rights, and more. She lives with her husband Michael in the Rancocas section of Mount Laurel, New Jersey.

A Record of Success and a Vision for the Future

Murphy is determined to fight for our rights in Congress just as she has done in New Jersey’s state Assembly and continue advocating for reproductive freedom, affordable housing and health care, environmental protection, quality public education, and support for the state’s working families, veterans, and seniors. As a longtime New Jerseyan herself, Murphy knows the challenges the state faces — but she also knows that the people of the 3rd Congressional District won’t allow extremists to take away their freedoms, and she’s ready to stand by them. “Like all of you, I’ve experienced tragedies and struggles,” she has said. “I want to be on the front lines during the toughest times, fighting for you.”

A Democratic Pro-Choice Champion Ready to Step Up

New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District is currently represented by Democratic Rep. Andy Kim, who is vacating the seat to run for the U.S. Senate. “I’ll bring a fresh perspective as the first woman from South Jersey ever to serve in the United States House of Representatives,” Murphy said upon announcing her run. “I will be a fierce advocate and never back down from those trying to divide our nation. As your congresswoman, I’ll fight like hell for women, veterans, seniors, the middle class, and our democracy.” Let’s show Murphy the support of the EMILYs List community and make sure that in 2025, there will be one more incredible Democratic pro-choice woman fighting for New Jersey — and for all of us —  in Congress.
