A champion for Virginia working families

Rep. Abigail Spanberger is an experienced leader and a deeply committed public servant who serves in Congress to expand economic opportunity for Virginia working families. She grew up in Henrico County, Virginia, and is a proud graduate of the University of Virginia. She began her career of public service as a federal law enforcement officer working narcotics and money laundering cases with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Following her love of country, public service, and languages, she went on to join the CIA as a case officer and worked undercover collecting intelligence, managing assets, and overseeing high-profile programs to combat terrorism and keep Americans safe. In 2014, she left government service to begin a career in the private sector. When she saw partisan politics and division threatening the country she dedicated her life to defend, she decided to run for Congress. Spanberger was elected to represent Virginia’s 7th Congressional District in 2018. She and her husband are parents to three daughters.

A fighter working to expand economic opportunity

Rep. Spanberger serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and House Agriculture Committee. Her top priorities include strengthening our country’s national security and fighting for Virginia families by lowering costs, creating jobs, and cleaning up Washington. “In Congress, I am focused on lowering costs for Virginia families, making smart investments in our workforce, fixing outdated physical infrastructure, cutting red tape for Virginia’s small businesses, and creating family-sustaining jobs,” Spanberger has said. We need her perspective and leadership in Congress now more than ever.

A must-win reelection fight

Rep. Spanberger flipped a seat blue in 2018, and she successfully defended it in 2020 and again in 2022. We cannot take anything for granted in this swing district, as Republicans do everything in their power to retake this seat — and the majority. With so much of our progress at stake, let’s show Spanberger the full support of the EMILY’s List community and help keep this champion for Virginia working families in the House.
