A Fearless Leader

Gov. Katie Hobbs was born and raised in Arizona. The first social worker elected governor in America, she listened to her community and rolled up her sleeves to get things done. She served as an advocate and later as chief compliance officer for one of the largest domestic abuse shelters in the country, helping provide critical resources to thousands of women suffering from domestic violence. After watching her elected leaders fail those in need, Gov. Hobbs stepped up to run and in 2010 was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives. In 2013, she was elected to the state Senate, and by 2015, she was Senate minority leader.

She has fought for people across the state, helping expand Medicaid and providing health care for hundreds of thousands of Arizonans. She worked to secure the rights of victims of sexual and domestic violence, and with bipartisan support, worked with the Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kit Task Force to help eliminate Arizona’s rape kit backlog. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University and a master’s in social work from Arizona State University.

Putting Arizonans First

In 2018, Gov. Hobbs was elected Arizona secretary of state and successfully modernized the office, fixed faulty and broken systems, and battled misinformation from foreign and domestic sources. In 2020, in the face of threats to herself, her family, and her colleagues, she delivered a historically secure election for Arizona voters and stood strong against a pressure campaign from Trump and his MAGA extremist allies to overturn the results.

In 2022, she was elected governor of Arizona — making her the fifth woman, and the first social worker elected governor in the country, to lead the state. In her first term as governor, Gov. Hobbs has focused on repairing the damage wrought by Republican extremists and leading Arizona forward. Under her leadership, Arizona has added more than 100,000 jobs and had the lowest unemployment rate in the state’s history. Gov. Hobbs has also lowered the cost of housing for Arizonans, including making an investment of $165 million to create thousands of affordable units for working-class Arizonans. As a fierce defender of reproductive freedoms, Gov. Hobbs signed an executive order that not only safeguarded, but expanded, reproductive care by protecting patients from out-of-state investigations, and she repealed the 1864 abortion ban.

Safeguard Democracy in Arizona

In 2022, Gov. Hobbs narrowly defeated Trump loyalist Kari Lake. Arizona Republicans will stop at nothing to shake the foundations of our democracy and we expect them to run another MAGA-backed extremist. We must reelect Gov. Hobbs to put an end to the chaotic Republican agenda that has put our democracy at risk. Gov. Hobbs is committed to protecting our fundamental freedoms and abortion access, fighting back against Republican extremists, and ensuring Arizonans’ voices are heard. EMILYs List is proud to support Gov. Hobbs in this critical reelection fight.
