Humble Beginnings

Jessica Swartz was born and raised in West Michigan by middle class parents who instilled in her the value of hard work. She attended Michigan State University and later American University Washington College of Law. After graduation, Swartz worked as an appellate attorney for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. She was instrumental in making sure veterans got the benefits they were promised by cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse. To help with student loan debt and mortgage payment, Swartz waited tables on nights and weekends to pay down her student loans and mortgage — an experience many Americans can resonate with. She moved back to West Michigan with her husband and continued her successful work for the VA in Battle Creek. Eventually, she joined Western Michigan University as the deputy general counsel and specialized in free speech cases.

Providing Michiganders a Solution-Based Leader

Swartz is no stranger to public service and ensuring voting rights for all Americans. She has worked to prevent partisan gerrymandering with the nonpartisan organization Voters Not Politicians. Swartz is passionate about giving West Michiganders solution-based government leaders by setting aside party politics. She believes that all deserve a shot at the American dream and she will fight to grow our economy, cut costs for working families, and defend Medicare and Social Security. Swartz will work to protect abortion rights and pass commonsense gun safety legislation. She is running for Congress to defend our democracy and ensure that every American has the opportunity to live an equitable life.

Protect Michigan Against Extremist Politicians

Jessica Swartz is running for Michigan’s 4th Congressional District currently held by anti-abortion extremist U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga. She is ready to bring effective leadership to Michiganders instead of the extreme partisanship her opponent has chosen. She will fight to restore reproductive rights and abortion access, while continuing to be a strong advocate for I.V.F protections. EMILYs List is proud to stand with her in this election and help fight to protect the rights of Michiganders.
