Emily Randall
Servant Leader
Emily Randall was born and raised in Port Orchard, Washington, where her parents and teachers instilled in her the value of education. She is the first in her family to attend a four-year college, so she knows firsthand the importance of making the path to higher education more accessible. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 2004 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and women’s studies from Wellesley College. Randall’s passion for helping others stems from her deeply rooted upbringing. She is the oldest of three children and experienced the positive impact the government had on her youngest sister, who was born with complex medical needs. Thanks to Washington State’s Medicaid expansion, her sister was able to receive necessary care that improved her quality of life. It was through these life-changing experiences that Randall was able to find her drive for helping people and fighting for affordable higher education and health care access expansion. In November 2018, she was elected to the Washington state Senate representing the 26th District becoming the first queer woman state senator in Washington.
Fighting for an Accessible and Affordable Washington
Randall hit the ground running in the state Senate and led the charge to pass numerous landmark pieces of legislation to better the lives of Washingtonians. She has fought to protect abortion access and make Washington a haven for people seeking abortion care across the country, expand postpartum Medicaid coverage to banning subminimum wage for folks with disabilities, and modernize apprenticeship programs.Randall is serious about delivering results for her community and prioritizes access to affordable higher education, apprenticeships, and job training programs to prepare students for living-wage jobs at local businesses, and securing investments in essential infrastructure She quickly rose to leadership in the state Senate and now serves as the deputy majority leader. Additionally, she sits on the Senate Higher Education & Workforce Development Committee, the Senate Health & Long Term Care, and Ways & Means committees.
Expand the Blue
State Sen. Emily Randall is running for Washington’s 6th Congressional District, currently held by U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer, who is not seeking reelection. Randall will fight for our fundamental freedoms and understands the importance of protecting a woman’s right to choose. She has spearheaded legislation to protect women’s reproductive rights and ensure them a safe space for abortion access and she will continue this great work if elected. Randall will fight against anti-abortion extremists in the U.S. Congress, and in her general election she is poised to defeat Drew MacEwen, who has repeatedly voted against abortion access protections in the Washington state Senate. If elected, Randall would also be the first ever woman, Latina, and person of color to hold the WA-06 seat. Randall would also be the first openly LBGTQ+ person in the Washington delegation in Congress, and the first ever openly LGBTQ+ Latina elected to Congress. EMILYs List is proud to stand with Randall in this critical election and join her in making history.
