A dedicated community leader standing up for Kansas working families

Rep. Sharice Davids is a tireless fighter for Kansans in Congress. She was raised by a single mother, who is a U.S. Army veteran, and learned the value of hard work and service from a young age. As a member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, Rep. Davids made history in 2018 as one of the first Native American women elected to Congress. She worked her way from Johnson County Community College to Cornell Law School, before going on to live and work on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. She served as a White House Fellow during the final year of the Obama administration. Rep. Davids has competed in mixed martial arts tournaments, fighting both professionally and as an amateur, and is the author of Sharice’s Big Voice: A Native Kid Becomes a Congresswoman, a picture book autobiography sharing her story with children. Rep. Davids is also the first openly LGBTQ+ member of the Kansas congressional delegation and the first Democratic woman to represent the 3rd Congressional District.

A champion for expanding economic opportunity

Rep. Davids is dedicated to expanding economic opportunity for hardworking Kansas families. She co-sponsored seven bipartisan bills that became law in 2022, including protections for same-sex and interracial marriage, health benefits for millions of veterans exposed to toxins, and international supply chain reforms. Rep. Davids served as a key negotiator for the major, bipartisan manufacturing law known as the CHIPS and Science Act, helping get critical supply chain and domestic manufacturing investments across the finish line. She now serves on the House Small Business Committee, the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, and the House Agriculture Committee. “My approach remains the same: I will work with anyone if it is good for Kansas, and I will stand up against those who seek to take us backwards,” she has said. She is committed to ensuring Kansas families have access to the full range of health care services they need, including reproductive health care. “As a woman and a Native American, I know how to stand up and fight for equity,” Rep. Davids has said. “As a lawyer, economic advisor, and advocate, I know how to build consensus and get things done.”

A must-win reelection fight

Rep. Davids is a tough campaigner who flipped this seat from red to blue in 2018 and successfully defended it in 2020 and again in 2022, despite Kansas Republicans changing the makeup of her district to favor their party.
