Jacky Rosen
A fierce champion for Nevada’s working families
Sen. Jacky Rosen ran for the U.S. Senate to fight for the working families of Nevada, the state she has called home for over 40 years. She is the granddaughter of immigrants and the daughter of a World War II veteran, and grew up in a working class family. She was the first in her family to graduate from college, and worked multiple jobs and took out student loans to help her achieve that goal. After working as a computer programmer at major companies in Southern Nevada, she later stepped away from her career to take care of her aging parents and in-laws when they got sick. Before running for office, Rosen served for three years as president of the largest Reform synagogue in Nevada In 2016, Rosen ran for Congress and won, flipping a highly competitive Republican-held district. EMILYs List was with her every step of the way. In 2018, she ran for Senate and was the only Democratic challenger in the country to unseat a Republican incumbent that year, becoming the second woman senator in Nevada history. She is also the first computer programmer and the first former synagogue president ever elected to the Senate.
A proven leader committed to progress
Sen. Rosen was motivated to run for office by a desire to make a difference for her community, and she is laser-focused on growing Nevada’s economy for the future — particularly when it comes to travel and tourism, clean energy jobs, and STEM education — while bringing down costs so working families are able to make ends meet. She is also committed to making health care more accessible and affordable and addressing Nevada’s doctor shortage, fighting for reproductive rights, cracking down on political corruption in Washington, supporting our service members and veterans, and advocating for comprehensive immigration reform that fixes our current broken system. Rosen is a leader in the fight against Republican attempts to ban abortions and restrict people’s reproductive rights. She helped introduce and voted for the Women’s Health Protection Act to protect access to reproductive health care and safeguard against dangerous abortion bans and restrictions, and she joined dozens of her Senate colleagues in introducing the Freedom to Travel for Health Care Act, which would make it illegal for anti-choice states to limit women’s travel for reproductive care.
A must-win reelection fight
In 2018, Sen. Rosen successfully challenged incumbent Republican Sen. Dean Heller and flipped this Senate seat from red to blue in a high-stakes fight. Now she is running for reelection, and we know she has what it takes to win again with the full support of the EMILYs List community. We know Republicans will do everything in their power to unseat her, and we must have her back. Our country needs Rosen’s strong values-driven leadership now more than ever, and we are proud to support her in the fight to protect the rights and the dignity of all Nevada women and families.
