A Fighter Rooted in Community

Analilia Mejía is a mom, grassroots organizer, and nationally recognized advocate for working families who believes the government should work for everyday people, not powerful insiders. Born and raised in New Jersey, Analilia is the daughter of Colombian and Dominican immigrants who taught her the value of community and hard work. She remembers nights growing up when money was tight and her parents worried about how they would make ends meet. Analilia has always believed that when communities organize and stand together, they can change lives.

Delivering Results for Working Families

Analilia has spent her career taking on powerful interests and fighting for fairness. She served as national political director for Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign and later as deputy director of the Women’s Bureau at the U.S. Department of Labor, where she worked to expand economic opportunity for women and working families. Today, as co-executive director of Popular Democracy, she supports grassroots organizations across the country working to strengthen communities and protect democracy. Along the way, Analilia has challenged corruption and machine politics in both parties, demanding transparency and accountability. She has championed policies that make a real difference in people’s lives including higher wages, paid leave, affordable child care, and economic policies that help families stay afloat. Her focus has always been clear: build an economy that rewards work, not wealth, and ensure that every family has the basic building blocks to thrive.

Now, Analilia is running for Congress because she believes this moment requires bold leadership and real representation for working families. Too many people in Washington are disconnected from the daily struggles of rising costs, child care expenses, and economic insecurity. Analilia understands those pressures firsthand and is committed to lowering costs, expanding access to health care and child care, and investing in infrastructure and public transit so families can spend more time at home not commuting.

Safeguarding NJ-11

With New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District now open, holding this critical seat in the special election is essential to ensuring working families continue to have a strong voice in Congress. Analilia Mejía is running to make sure that voice doesn’t disappear. A proven advocate for working people, Analilia is committed to standing up to corruption, holding the powerful accountable, and putting communities ahead of special interests. EMILYs List is proud to support Analilia in this race as we work to protect this seat and take back the U.S. House.
