Rising Star Panel: All six of the 2018 Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award nominees will join us for an exciting lunch to talk about their experiences serving in elected office around the country and how they are making change in their communities.
Not Just Another “Year of the Woman” Panel: Our panel of leaders, activists, and experts will discuss the differences between 2018 and the last so-called "Year of the Woman" and how we can transform the enthusiasm and activism of 2018 into a permanent sea change in our politics.
Research & Polling Panel: One question plaguing practitioners and pundits is voter enthusiasm and the electorate in 2018. In this panel, we take a look at the motivations of unexpected voters in the 2017 Virginia contests to see how we can motivate unlikely voters in our 2018 battleground states: WI, MO, AZ and NV.

We Are EMILY Award
The We Are EMILY Award honors an extraordinary woman who is making a significant impact on our nation through consistent leadership and inspiration to the EMILY’s List community – which is now more than five million strong.
This year, we're honored to present the We Are EMILY Award to Senator Patty Murray.
Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) is the highest-ranking woman and the third-ranking Democrat in the Senate. Elected in 1992 after being dismissed as “just a mom in tennis shoes,” Murray has led the way in championing policies that empower women and working families, including equal pay for equal work, family-friendly workplace policies, and women’s reproductive health and rights. She has done so while encouraging Democrats, and especially Democratic women, to run for and win Senate seats, and fight for women and families.
Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award
Named in honor of the dedicated and courageous Gabrielle Giffords, the Rising Star Award celebrates an extraordinary woman serving in state or local office. The award honors women who demonstrate the sort of commitment to community, dedication to women and families, and determination and civility that have been the highlights of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ career, in and out of office.
The 2018 Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star is Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx!
Kimberly M. Foxx is the first African American woman to lead the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office – the country’s second largest prosecutor’s office. Her vision is to build the most just, equitable, and transparent prosecutor’s office in the country, by working proactively to make all communities safe while investing in policies that promote a more balanced criminal justice system. Her first year in office has brought substantial progress in priority areas including wrongful convictions, bond reform, and gun violence. Kim was born and raised on Chicago’s Near North Side and received her B.A. and J.D. from Southern Illinois University.
