EMILY's List was founded on the premise that "Early money is like yeast; it makes the dough rise." When the EMILY's List founders prepared their first fundraising mailing, they had planned to include a Fleischmann's yeast packet to illustrate their point. “But since the main goal was to raise money, the idea was nixed to make the mailing less expensive. They kept the thought, though, and based the EMILY's List logo design on the original packet -- a sample of which hangs in the main lobby of EMILY's List's headquarters, along with our first piece of letterhead.
