Robin Carnahan
A marquee race in a swing state
Republican Kit Bond’s retirement and the candidacy of Secretary of State Robin Carnahan make this Senate seat a top Democratic takeover opportunity, but Missouri’s is known for hardball politics and close contests – and this race is expected to be another nail-biter.
A reformer who takes on the tough fights
As secretary of state, Carnahan has fought for financial reform and clean elections, and helped the small businesses that create jobs. Missouri voters re-elected her with more votes than any other statewide candidate in Missouri history in her 2008 re-election.
A radical and entrenched right-wing opponent
Ultraconservative GOP Cong. Roy Blunt, who counts Tom Delay and John Ashcroft as mentors and says he is “honored” to be on the new League of Conservation Voters’ “Dirty Dozen” list, will likely get the GOP nod in this race. Carnahan is counting on the support of EMILY’s List to counter the millions Blunt is raising from corporate and right-wing special-interests.
