A public servant ready to run when lines are drawn

Former Congresswoman Dina Titus narrowly lost her seat -- by less than 1 percent of the vote -- to Tea Party Cong. Joe Heck in the tumultuous 2010 election. Far from ready to leave public service -- she was a longtime state legislative leader -- Dina refuses to stand by the sidelines when Nevada families still need her leadership and determination to create jobs and get the economy back on track. Thanks to population growth, Nevada gains a congressional seat, and with Shelley Berkley’s seat open we have a chance to return Dina Titus to Congress to fight for women and families.

A "rising star" sent home too soon

During Dina’s term in Congress, she never backed down from a tough fight. She opposed the anti-choice Stupak amendment to the Health Care Act and supported the historic health care legislation to free women from gender discrimination by Nevada insurers -- while successfully passing a small business amendment the Las Vegas Sun dubbed a “valuable imprint” on the bill. Dina fought to bring Recovery Act funds to Nevada to save teachers’ jobs and create new ones through road projects. She voted to extend unemployment benefits and fought to protect consumers from foreclosures and unfair credit card rate hikes. Even after a grueling term and a brutal re-election fight, Dina says, “I don’t feel burned out.”

An uncertain election due to a still-nebulous district map

With Nevada’s electoral map stuck in the courts, Dina is wasting no time preparing for a run for the House -- in one of the state’s southern districts, once finalized -- and has pledged to oppose the extreme GOP agenda and resume her fight to create green jobs, protect homeowners, and preserve Medicare and Social Security. Dina will need to raise enough resources to lock up the nomination and prepare for a possible Tea Party-targeted general election. Republicans and right-wing groups spent nearly $2 million to defeat her in 2010 -- and within hours of announcing her 2012 bid, national GOPers were already on the attack. Dina will need our strong financial support to win this new seat for Democrats and continue the important work she started.
