- A triumphant run for Congress
- A tireless advocate for veterans, choice and equal pay
- A prime GOP take-back target
a true progressive fighting for the first
Midterm elections are historically tough for the incumbent president’s party, so it’s no surprise that Tea Party survivor Carol Shea-Porter’s re-election bid is on multiple “must-watch” lists. Defeated extremist former Rep. Frank Guinta is considering a rematch. Since her triumphant return to the House in 2012, Carol has resumed her tireless fight for women’s health, education and the middle class – and keeping her in Congress where she belongs will be a top EMILY’s List priority.
A fighter for granite state workers, veterans, and women
Educated as a social worker, Carol has never turned her back on the millions of Americans she calls “the bottom 99%.” She fought to stop the doubling of student loan rates while backing critical infrastructure projects that will create jobs and improve the Granite State’s roads and water systems. Carol publicly blasted House Republicans for “wasting America’s time” with incessant votes to repeal Obamacare, and cosponsored landmark new paycheck fairness legislation, saying, “When women are paid less than men for doing the same work, it affects their ability to send their kids to good schools, afford quality health care, and pay for everyday needs.”
a gop chomping at the bit to retake this seat
In 2006 Carol made history as the first woman elected to represent New Hampshire in the House – serving until her loss in the 2010 Tea Party tidal wave. While she has time and again defied the odds – most recently in her hard-fought 2012 comeback race – we can’t take any chances in 2014. Less than a month after Carol was sworn in, the NRCC went up with its first TV attack ad – and you can bet they’ll be joined by Karl Rove, the Kochs, and right-wing special interests whose livelihoods depend on John Boehner remaining speaker. It’s absolutely crucial that the EMILY’s List community step up for Carol now, and help her raise the resources necessary to hold this key swing seat.
