Yesterday, the 113th Congress was sworn into office, including 16 new EMILY’s List women to the House and 9 EMILY’s List women to the Senate. With a record number of women entering both chambers and the incoming freshman class being the most diverse in history, there was a lot to celebrate. So we did!

EMILY’s List candidates have been hitting the road and gearing up the grassroots around the issues that really matter to women and families.  Check out what they’ve been up to over the past week!

The elected members of the EMILY's List family hold powerful positions in their roles in the House and Senate, some directly working with Armed Services, the Intelligence Committee, and Homeland Security.

Today EMILY's List announced that it is moving five women currently "On the List" to a full recommendation. These five women are the first 2012 House challengers to move from "On the List" to a full endorsement.

• Just in time for Veteran’s Day, the Illinois National Guard promoted Iraq War veteran and IL-08 congressional candidate Tammy Duckworth to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Congratulations Tammy! Make sure to check out Tammy’s Veteran’s Day guest post on the EMILY’s List Blog.
• Election night brought some great wins for women last Tuesday.
  

"It will be exciting. It will be interesting to watch. It will be expensive"

"It" will likely be one of the marquee House races in 2012 and "it" has already started. "It" is the campaign to take back the seat of GOP fire-brand, Palin-backed, Tea Party favorite and oft-quoted freshman Florida Congressman Allen West.
