There's no doubt we face challenges as the 112th Congress convenes, but there is also reason for celebration. All of you helped elect a strong group of pro-choice Democratic women to fight for us, including four new women of color in the House, and it was a thrill to have them sworn in yesterday.

My few hours spent with our elected women reminded me of the long hours and dedication of our public servants. My feet could barely keep up with the pace at which these women move -- and today was just day one.

Huge news in Alabama today! Terri Sewell landed a major endorsement from the Birmingham News, and in a tight three-way race like this one, the announcement couldn't have come at a better time.

Since pulling in the most votes in her June 1 primary, Terri Sewell (AL-07) has been hard at work preparing for the July 13 run-off. And today, Terri's campaign received some pretty remarkable news proving that all that work is paying off.

A safely Democratic district like AL-07 provides one of the best opportunities we have to elect a new pro-choice Democratic woman to Congress. And because Alabama has never elected a woman to Congress in her own right, Terri is poised to make history.

She may be a freshman, but Cong. Terri Sewell of Alabama is already making a splash as a member of the 112th Congress. At tonight’s State of the Union address, Terri will be one of the seven Democratic members of the Escort Committee for President Obama – an exciting honor.

Terri Sewell is absolutely infectious -- her laughter, her grin, and her passion for making change. Getting to watch her in action yesterday was an awesome reminder why we work as hard as we do to help women like Terri get elected.

I arrived at Terri's campaign headquarters late this afternoon and got settled in before tagging along for a pre-primary meet-and-greet with a local Democratic club. Here are some office teaser photos. More pictures to come!
