Not since 1964 has a Democrat been Washington’s Secretary of State – 48 years. But now we have Kathleen Drew, who is also the only Democratic woman running for an executive statewide office this year. And WA has 9 statewide elected offices.

The Stanford Center for Teaching and Learning recently released a report from the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) that details the gender inequality in higher education. Guess what? It still exists.

Earlier this week, I had the delight of joining the EMILY’s List community gathered in D.C. to celebrate what is shaping up to be a historic year for women in politics -- with half the senate women up for re-election, and strong challengers and candidates for open seats -- this is the most Democratic women we’ve seen running for the senate, ever.

Earlier this week, our four West Coast senators did what they do best -- stand up for their home states. This powerful foursome consists of Senators Barbara Boxer (CA), and Patty Murray (WA), who both recently won re-election with the help of EMILY's List members as well as Maria Cantwell (WA), and Dianne Feinstein (CA), who are both up for re-election this cycle. Banded together with the two Democratic senators from Oregon, they're fighting offshore drilling on the Pacific Coast.

We know the drill by now: Republicans like to talk about jobs, but if you actually want something done about job creation, then you need a Democrat. Sen. Maria Cantwell of Washington is a perfect example: she understands the dangerous economic ramifications of the budget proposed by the GOP, which threatens both specific jobs and the growth of our economy overall.

This past weekend EMILY's List's candidates and elected officials joined with their friends, family, and constituents to celebrate the nation's birthday. We've collected pictures of our amazing women like Janice Hahn, whose campaign is zeroing in on election day next week, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, On the List candidate Ann McLane Kuster of New Hampshire, and others as they hit the pavement, worked the crowds, and honored the holiday.
