I never knew the GOP could be so downright poetic. RNC Chair Michael Steele had one heck of a quote today, letting voters know that Republicans have turned over a new leaf, sprouted new roots, blossomed all over again. (I really could go on forever.)

Speaking of two Republican gubernatorial candidates -- Virginia nominee Bob McDonnell and New Jersey nominee Chris Christie, Steele had the following to say:

"We have unfolded, if you will, the flower of new leadership in the Republican Party."

Today we’re hearing that EMILY’s List’s own Sen. Debbie Stabenow is poised to take the helm of the Senate Agriculture Committee, and to that we say: We couldn’t be happier!

Sen. Stabenow is ready to assume one of the most powerful chairmanships in the Senate. She’ll lead the charge to work on environmental regulations to keep our farmlands safe. She’ll guide the way for policies that will find new energy sources in our soil. She is going to effectively advance real progress in our country.

UPDATE: Nelson amendment update: Women senators speak out

We'd heard about Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson's plan to propose an amendment "as identical to Stupak as it can be," and today Nelson did just that. The measure, which would deny millions of women access to abortion services, was introduced this afternoon, and debate was underway even before it was formally proposed.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (MI) is on a roll.

Time and time again, Stabenow has served as the perfect example of why we need more women in office. Just last week, Stabenow emphasized the importance of maternity care during an exchange with GOP Sen. Jon Kyl (AZ). And today, Stabenow once again served as the voice of reason during a Senate Finance Committee hearing.

  • Michigan: Stabenow tells farmers she is fighting for them as they beg leaders to continue the crop insurance program at the same level during the difficult weather seen this past year across the country.
    "Stabenow told about 300 people who attended the field hearing ... that she considers the farm bill a jobs bill because 16 million people work in agriculture.
