Michele Bachmann: Media Darling

Jess McIntosh
October 1, 2010

Michele Bachmann keynoted the Smart Girl Summit last night. And honestly? After a day of some real speechifying, she was kind of a letdown.

Of course, once you've been called a neo-Nazi freak of nature, it's hard to really get into the spirit of things.

Her speech was short -- less than 10 minutes -- and she rushed out without taking pictures or speaking to any of her fans. Remember the women who traveled from all over the country to see her? They didn’t get their money's worth.

In Which Things Get Mean

EMILY's List intern Jamie has been faithfully reporting from inside the Smart Girl Summit all day. She's met some really nice women. In fact, aside from the speakers, who seem a tad peeved, she's met NOTHING but nice women.

She was ok with it when kick-off speaker Dana Loesch called her a trust-fund socialist and an old, irrelevant feminist. She didn't take it personally, because Dana was talking about ALL liberal women. Bad for the rest of us, but easier for Jamie for sure.

How to fight back against the GOP's attempt to redefine rape

Lisa McIntire
February 2, 2011

I first learned about GOP-backed H.R. 3, the bill that would redefine rape, last week from Nick Baumann’s reporting in Mother Jones, and like so many others, I was shocked, upset, and – make no mistake – angry.
