Great news in Florida -- new polling shows Alex Sink jumping ahead in the race for governor. While Republican candidates Rick Scott and Bill McCollum have been knocking each other back and forth on the airwaves, Alex has stayed above the fray, pushing her positive message -- and it's paying off. This Tampa news outlet said it best: Alex Sink surges as Rick Scott and Bill McCollum sling mud in Florida Governor's Race.

Sarah still doesn't speak for women

Sarah really doesn’t speak for me… or a majority of women in America. A new poll by Hart Research Associates for Planned Parenthood found that most women don’t think Sarah Palin is trustworthy when it comes to women’s health issues. A paltry 24% of women believe Palin can be trusted on issues such as birth control, sex education, health care, and a woman’s right to choose. That leaves a lot of women out there who can’t relate to Palin’s extremist views.

Apparently the Wisconsin GOP will stop at nothing, including cheap, deceitful tricks, in their desperate attempt to maintain control of the state legislature in the upcoming recall elections.

Michele Bachmann: Protecting BP while families suffer. Oh, and calling the President a criminal, too.

June 17, 2010

Readers of this blog -- or anyone who's watched television over the last few years -- have come to expect outrageous statements and terrible ideas from Michele Bachmann. But yesterday, I have to admit, she surprised even me.

Michele Bachman went to bat for BP -- becoming the company's most vocal advocate and displaying a truly shocking -- even for her -- disregard for American families and their tax dollars.

A new FL-Gov poll shows a two-point race between the state's Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink and the GOP's leading contender, current state Attorney General Bill McCollum.

The poll -- conducted for the St. Petersburg Times, Miami Herald, Bay News 9, and Central Florida News 13 -- shows McCollum pulling in 34 percent to Alex's 32. But with a four-point margin of error, this is truly anyone's race.

Debating in New Mexico

August 20, 2010

Last night was the first debate in the New Mexico gubernatorial election. The topic was education, and EMILY's List candidate Diane Denish excelled.

She spoke passionately about public school reforms to ensure that students across the state receive the opportunities they need to be successful in school and in life.

Republicans oppose Franken amendment protecting rape victims

October 22, 2009

When you hear something this outrageous, it seems too impossible to be real.

Newbie Sen. Al Franken wasn't looking for controversy when he introduced a legislative amendment recently. He was looking to right a wrong -- and do it in a way that, one would think, every one of his Senate colleagues would be proud to join him.

Tea Party to the rescue for Jane Corwin?

I love the smell of desperation in the morning. (OK, fine, it’s the afternoon, but you get the idea). How do you know your campaign is flailing? When your idea of calling in the big guns is getting Cong. Allen West, Tea Party darling and anti-woman extremist, to campaign on your behalf. Apparently, this is the situation Republican Jane Corwin, running in the special election for New York’s 26th congressional district, finds herself in.

EMILY’s List women say it best: you seriously want to shut down the government over Planned Parenthood?

Lisa McIntire
April 7, 2011

Faced with increasingly likelihood of a government shutdown, EMILY’s List women in Congress are doing what they do best – representing our interests by telling it like it is. In their own words, here’s what our advocates have to say about Republican brinksmanship over funding Planned Parenthood, which has nothing to do with fiscal responsibility and everything to do with an anti-woman agenda.
