Last night, EMILY’s List honored Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords with the We Are EMILY Award for her leadership, dedication and service in Congress.

Among the 450 supporters were more than 40 members of Congress and many of EMILY’s List’s endorsed candidates this election cycle.

Geraldine Ferraro blazed trails throughout her life, and never more so than when she stood in front of the nation to become the first female vice-presidential nominee of a major party.

Geraldine Ferraro fought for women and children and the rights of families to live stable and secure lives. She demonstrated dignity and toughness even at times of great challenge, including during her long fight with cancer.

Senator Barbara Mikulski first took office on January 3rd, 1977 as a member of the House of Representatives. On Saturday, she became the longest-serving woman in Congressional history, having served 12,858 days.

Let’s reflect on that for a moment. Any way you slice it, that is a really long time.
