Why Women

This weekend in Connecticut, Democrats will hold their convention to decide which candidates to endorse before the Democratic primary – coming one step closer to reclaiming Joe Lieberman’s seat for folks who actually intend to work for the people who elected them.

Last weekend, EMILY’s List held its WHY 2012 Majority Council conference in Houston, Texas, the first in a series of regional conferences with events in Chicago, San Francisco, and New York coming soon. These conferences give attendees a chance to hear from EMILY’s List staff and candidates and find out more about this historic year for women.

When the New Hampshire House leadership took a cue from the Blunt Amendment and decided to author a bill that would allow employers to deny contraception coverage , former Senate Majority Leader and now gubernatorial candidate Maggie Hassan had something to say about it.

Last night, EMILY’s List honored Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords with the We Are EMILY Award for her leadership, dedication and service in Congress.

Among the 450 supporters were more than 40 members of Congress and many of EMILY’s List’s endorsed candidates this election cycle.

Senator Barbara Mikulski first took office on January 3rd, 1977 as a member of the House of Representatives. On Saturday, she became the longest-serving woman in Congressional history, having served 12,858 days.

Let’s reflect on that for a moment. Any way you slice it, that is a really long time.
