This week, EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock stopped by Morning Joe. She talked about the history EMILY’s List has made over the last 28 years, reminding us that when EMILY’s List started, no Democratic woman had won a seat in the United States Senate in her own right ever – not until Barbara Mikulski. “We had MTV before there was a women’s bathroom in the United States Senate,” Schriock explained to the panel.
 

It’s been a long time coming, but the Violence Against Women Act is finally heading to President Obama’s desk for his signature. This is due in no small part to the tireless efforts of EMILY’s List women like Rep. Gwen Moore, Rep. Louise Slaughter and Senator Patty Murray.

Being an avid movie goer myself (and thrower of an annual Oscars party), I thought it would be fun to ask our fearless leader, Stephanie, about her picks for this year’s Oscars.

“I’ve only seen two of the movies [Zero Dark Thirty and Silver Linings Playbook],” she told me. “After all, it was an election year.”

Oh. Well, fair enough. All that winning can keep a person from the movie theater.

It’s been a whirlwind week for women! Between the EMILY’s List Inaugural Brunch on Sunday and Tuesday’s Roe v. Wade anniversary, EMILY’s List has been busy celebrating election success and laying down groundwork for future progress. EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock appeared on three MSNBC shows in the last few days—Melissa Harris-Perry on Saturday and The Daily Rundown and Hardball on Tuesday—to talk about what we’ve accomplished and where the conversation on choice is leading.

Yesterday, the 113th Congress was sworn into office, including 16 new EMILY’s List women to the House and 9 EMILY’s List women to the Senate. With a record number of women entering both chambers and the incoming freshman class being the most diverse in history, there was a lot to celebrate. So we did!
