Jessie Williams
October 6, 2010

Remember Orly Taitz? The woman who claimed she was "absolutely positive" President Obama is not a natural born U.S. citizen? Taitz founded the "Birther Movement" during the 2008 campaign -- attempting to prove Barack Obama was a Kenyan by birth.

GOP: What we have here is a failure to communicate

House Minority Leader John Boehner is set to give a major speech about jobs today – by all accounts, the GOP congressman is ready to lob some major attacks on Democrats and President Obama for supposedly killing jobs and economy. This is curious – aside from the ridiculous inaccuracies of such accusations – because Boehner’s conservative buddies seem pretty happy to take a very different stance: they readily declare that they’re unable to create jobs or are just fine with shipping American jobs overseas.

An important choice in Washington state

Yesterday, the anti-choice group Susan B. Anthony List endorsed GOP Senate candidate Dino Rossi. Not a surprise, considering Rossi hasn’t made a habit of concealing his anti-choice, anti-woman views – but don’t think for a minute that this endorsement wasn’t conveniently timed to coincide with an event for Democratic Sen. Patty Murray that will feature Gov. Chris Gregoire and Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Cecile Richards.

Duffy campaign: what's wrong with ads that put Lassa family at risk?

Yes, Virginia, they can sink that low: congressional candidate Sean Duffy and his campaign stand by a new ad that succeeds at not just crossing the line of decency, but taking a huge galloping leap over it. Funded by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the ad attacks Julie Lassa, then instructs viewers to call her – after displaying her home phone number. Julie’s two daughters used to pick up that phone, but that was before the family had to disconnect the line after being inundated with calls resulting from the ad.

It’s hard out there for a fraudster! By all accounts, Florida gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott’s had a rough week – first, he got pummeled by Alex Sink’s outstanding debate performance in which she showed him to be out of touch with reality and wholly untrustworthy.

Not just shady but scary Bill Brady

As we get closer and closer to November 2nd, hit websites, splash pages and attack ads are flooding the news. It's not often that one makes me stop, stare and yes, like I was in a cartoon, actually drop my jaw. Enter stage right -- way, way right -- Illinois Governor candidate, Republican Bill Brady.

As a girl from Chicago and a huge fan of my home state (Chicago Bears' performance last week notwithstanding), I wanted to shout from the rooftops to all my ladies back home, DO NOT LET THIS MAN WIN or women across the state will lose!

Barbara aces first senatorial debate

Lisa McIntire
September 3, 2010

Sen. Barbara Boxer is in the fight of her life, running against former (and failed) HP CEO Carly Fiorina who has a $21 million golden parachute and money from extreme right groups to boot. In their first debate, Barbara was in top form, proving how catastrophic Fiorina would be for California while making her record of accomplishments absolutely clear.

Take what "to the bank" Rep. Bachmann?

Representative Michele Bachmann has done well so far in the GOP presidential contest by unflinchingly stating her positions on issues that resonate with the loudest factions of the Republican Party.

Tea Party Activist Calls for the Hanging of Senator Patty Murray?!

February 22, 2010

While excitement fueled by hate and anger tend to run high at rallies hosted by tea-partiers, we were shocked when we heard about this comment from a participant in a tea party rally in Washington state last week, attended by hundreds of activists, calling for the hanging of Senator Patty Murray. The tea-party spokesperson compared Senator Murray to the character of Jake from “Lonesome Dove” and said: “What happened to Jake when he ran with the wrong crowd? He got hung (sic). And that’s what I want to do with Patty Murray.”
